#995 Graduating…finally- You’ve worked so hard for this moment. When friends begged you to go out with them, when papers were due the next day and you haven’t started them yet, when courses seemed impossible to comprehend and there was no end in sight – you stuck through it. You persisted and leaned into the difficult situations and obstacles. You discovered discipline, determination, sacrifice, commitment, and most importantly you discovered yourself. Now it’s your time to go off into the world and make an impact.
You’ll have peers that breezed by in their courses, but ended up with a diploma. They will find a job, stick with it, retire, then die. Their life’s work will be determined by that first job at the company that paid more than that college bar-tending job. But some of you won’t just settle. You will inquire and challenge others. You will always be chasing and perfecting your life’s work. You will work with difficult and amazing people just as excited as you are about the project at hand. You will reflect on your life, realizing you strayed away from the average person. You will truly discover the value of meaningful work. Congrats!
#996 – A friend remembering a memory you forgot – The great thing about friends is they were there experiencing life, with you. Sometimes we get so busy in our lives, we forget the great memories that we shared with friends. The inside jokes you shared, the situations you never thought you’d get out of – your friends were there. And as time passes, we bury the memories with more important things on our minds. So it’s great bringing up old moments and reliving them all over again.
#998 Acing the interview – the feeling of confidence that you have the job before you actually have the job. The smiles, the complements, the gratitude, and the connections that were all shown in the interview give you that awesome feeling “You got the job.” You’ve done it! The company is ready to invest in you. They are ready to do what it takes to have you on their team. ~Awesome~
#999 Your favorite show is running a marathon – Your favorite show is one that you love and hate sometimes. When the break for a commercial is always too soon. You talk to friends about this show, sharing the memories of characters you identified with (and identify others with). You’re off from work or school and you favorite show is playing all day. Sometimes they run the show in order so you may see shows from a previous season that you missed. You get to relive those great memories and emotions you had with the show all over again.
I saw this video not too long ago and it inspired me to start my own list of 1000 awesome things. Here is my list. I will also take suggestions of awesome things by commenting the blog posts.
# 1000 – Finding a song you instantly love -When you turn on the radio and hear a song you’ve never heard before and instantly cannot get enough of it. You want to hear it over and over. You feel like the song was written just for you. You want everyone to hear it so they can enjoy it too.
So what are you passionate about?
Ask this to people and see what they say… you may be surprised by what you hear. I hear “Nothing” a lot.
But when someone knows what they’re passionate about…. it’s a great conversation.
A few days ago I told you one of the keys to happiness was to keep learning – to chase your curiosity.
Now it’s time to pursue it. What is it that you find easy to learn about?
Art? History? People? So are you an expert yet?
How am I different from everyone else? This is how.
